Collective Embroidery

Collective Embroidery is an examination of how textile based craft contains socially connective elements. The work invites the public to participate and add any sort of embroired shape to the suspended fabric hanging in the gallery space for the full duration of the show..

At its core, the piece is an offering of a moment of slowness amidst the social hum of an exhibition opening night and the dense silence of a visit to the gallery mid show. It transforms the typical viewer-artwork relationship, inviting a different kind of present awareness lead by touch and mental focus. Each stitch becomes an artefact of an urge to express, of intrusive thoughts and intimate moments of hyper focus.

Collective Embroidery was featured in the group show RETREAT held at Raum Vollreinigung in Berlin.
