Father & Daughter Fishing By The North Sea

This series documents a fishing trip between my father and myself by the North Sea. It portrays my point of view as the daughter in this experience where I unmask the emotional intimacy father figures often express through skill sharing.

I wanted to capture the poetry I felt in my surroundings, in the vastness of the ocean, in the cold, and in the act of waiting. I wanted to share the tender humility that washes over me when a fish is caught, the juxtaposition of my feminine gaze and the conventionally masculine act of killing and hunting an animal for food.

With the series I question the gendered dynamics of inherited identity, examining what happens to my female identity when zooming in on the traditionally masculine traits I have absorbed from my father.

Father & Daughter Fishing By The North Sea is now on view during The Autonomous Art Practice & The Dream at CBK Zuidoost from April 26 - July 1 2025.
